MDF panel or stretched canvas: which is better for textured art?
The difference between textured wall art made on a rigid MDF panel and on stretched canvas — and how to tell which one a piece uses.

Handmade textured art needs a base that can carry sculpted relief. In our collection that base is either a handcrafted MDF panel or a stretched canvas. Neither is simply better; they suit different pieces and different walls.
MDF panel
- Rigid and completely flat, so heavy or deep relief sits on a surface that won't flex.
- Clean, flat edges — the piece reads as a solid panel on the wall.
- Heavier than a canvas of the same size, so it wants a secure fixing.
Stretched canvas
- Canvas stretched over a wooden frame and wrapped around the edges (often called gallery-wrapped).
- Lighter for its size, which helps with large formats.
- The woven surface can show through thinner texture, which some pieces use on purpose.
How to tell which one a piece uses
Every product page lists the piece's materials, taken from our own records — for example “Handcrafted MDF panel, sculpted clay relief, gesso ground, acrylic, varnish finish” or “modelling paste and acrylic on stretched canvas”. If the base matters for where you'll hang it, ask on WhatsApp before you order.
What stays the same
On either base, the relief is built up by hand, cured, painted and sealed. The care is the same too: dust with a soft, dry cloth and keep the piece away from moisture.
