How to choose 3D textured wall art for your home
A practical guide to choosing handmade 3D textured wall art: size, light, colour, base material and what to ask before you order.

Textured wall art — also called relief art or sculptural wall art — is sculpted, not printed. The pattern stands off the surface — petals, leaves, ridges, lettering — so it changes with the light and reads differently from across the room than it does up close. That is its appeal, and also why choosing one takes a little more thought than choosing a print.
1. Start with the wall
Measure the wall and anything in front of it: the sofa, bed, console or stair run. A common interior rule of thumb is that art above furniture looks balanced at about two-thirds to three-quarters of the furniture's width. On a bare wall, choose a piece that leaves clear wall on every side.
On every product page on this site, “Size on your wall” draws the piece to scale next to a sheet of A4 paper, which is an easier comparison to picture than a number in inches.
2. Look at where the light comes from
Raised texture needs light from the side to show. A wall beside a window, or one washed by a wall light, will throw shadows across the relief that move through the day. A wall lit only from straight ahead flattens it. If your wall gets little side light, choose a piece with deeper relief or stronger contrast — a dark ground with pale relief, for example.
3. Decide on the base: panel or canvas
Our pieces are made on one of two bases, and each product page says which. A handcrafted MDF panel is rigid and flat-edged; a stretched canvas is lighter, with the canvas wrapped around a frame. Both carry the sculpted relief. If the difference matters for where you'll hang it, it's written in the materials line of every listing.
4. Choose the colour for the room, not the photo
Most pieces can be made in colours other than the one shown. Neutral relief — cream, sand, ivory — lets the texture do the work; a contrasting palette makes a bolder statement. Tell us your wall colour and main fabrics when you message and we'll confirm the palette before you pay.
5. Know what “handmade” means before you order
- Every piece is made after you order, so there's a making time: a standard piece takes 3–7 days to sculpt, cure and finish (8–12 days for a large piece), then about 2–5 days in transit.
- Small variations in texture and colour are part of the piece, not defects. The design, colours and size match what you ordered.
- Pieces are made to order and often personalised, so they can't be returned. If one arrives damaged, tell us on WhatsApp within 24 hours of delivery, with photos, and we'll repair it.
- The delivery charge depends on your location and the piece, and is confirmed on WhatsApp before you pay.
6. When to commission instead
If the wall is unusually large, the size is awkward, or you want a specific motif or palette, a commission is designed for that wall. You approve a small sample panel in the real texture and colours before the full piece is sculpted — so the first time you see the material isn't when the finished piece arrives.
